Tourism activities in Machu Picchu resume after approval from authorities

The Peruvian Export and Tourism Promotion Commission (PROMPERÚ) informs foreign visitors that, after approval from the relevant authorities, tourist train service to Machu Picchu has officially resumed, as well as tourist activities in the Inca citadel.

On Wednesday, Ferrocarril Transandino and PeruRail announced the reopening of the Ollantaytambo-Machupicchu-Ollantaytambo route. This decision was made after a 72-hour truce was declared by local communities, which provided the necessary guarantees for travel. Any changes in operations will be communicated in a timely manner.
In coordination with the Ministry of Culture, it was determined that the Machupicchu Citadel would remain open until 18:00 during this period. Flexible arrangements have also been made to allow visitors to reschedule their entrance tickets without affecting those whose trips have been interrupted. Tickets that have already been purchased can be used at any time during September. In addition, airlines have expressed their willingness to help passengers who need to reschedule their flights.

PROMPERÚ also provides a WhatsApp number (+51 944-492-314) of IPERÚ, a member of the Tourism Protection Network, available around the clock from Monday to Sunday. Travelers can contact this number for information and assistance. The IPERÚ service, provided free of charge by the government, offers tourists official and up-to-date information about the country.

Machu Picchu remains a unique destination. The Peruvian government, in coordination with local authorities, continues to work to ensure sustainable and safe conditions for tourism.

PROMPERÚ reaffirms its commitment to the safety and well-being of visitors, working closely with the authorities to ensure an unforgettable experience in one of the world's most precious cultural and natural heritage sites.
