Minor Hotels, a global group of hotels, resorts and branded residences in 59 countries, has appointed Winston Gong as General Manager of Avani Kota Kinabalu, strengthening the group's leadership position as the property accelerates its commercial strategy and guest experience agenda ahead of the hotel's launch in the second quarter of 2026.
Winston has extensive international hospitality leadership experience in Australia, Asia and the Middle East, including hotel openings, operational turnarounds and results-driven commercial projects. Throughout his career, he has been recognized for improving revenue and profitability, enhancing guest satisfaction and managing stakeholders effectively, with experience in both urban and resort environments.
Most recently, Winston served as General Manager of Crowne Plaza Phu Quoc Starbay, where he drove annual growth and improved market share while strengthening brand standards and owner relationships. He has also held leadership roles at Holiday Inn Sydney St Marys and Crowne Plaza Hunter Valley, and has completed numerous pre-opening and refurbishment projects across the region.
