The Sacher Vienna Hotel opened its doors in 1876 and is celebrating its 150th anniversary in 2026. The anniversary year begins with the presentation of the sculptures «Big Step» and «Dancer» by the renowned artist Erwin Wurm in front of the hotel entrance. On March 26, 2026, they were inaugurated in the presence of the artist, the mayor of Vienna, Dr. Michael Ludwig, and the owner's family. They remain on display there throughout the anniversary year.

Large bags in front of the hotel
To celebrate the beginning of the anniversary year, the Sacher Vienna hotel is presenting two sculptures by the world-renowned Austrian artist Erwin Wurm at the entrance: «Step Big» and «Dancer» - large bags with long, slender legs. The installation can be understood as a poetic reflection on the «invisible baggage» that every person carries, shaped by their background, history and experience. At the same time, this collaboration emphasizes Sacher's strong connection to art and culture.
«I made these bags for walking, jumping, dancing, and stepping to take into account certain ideas about how we project ourselves, how we present ourselves, how we pretend to be, who we want to be, and how we want to be seen-both in the male and female world,» explains Erwin Wurm.
150 years shaped by family and excellence
The foundations of Sacher date back to 1832, when Franz Sacher created the original Sacher cake. To this day, it is still made by hand in 34 separate steps and is considered a culinary icon in Vienna. With the opening of the Hotel Sacher Vienna in 1876, Eduard Sacher continued this success story and, together with Anna Sacher, made the hotel a world-renowned meeting place for society. The Sacher Vienna is one of the few privately owned, family-run, five-star superior hotels in the world, a member of the Leading Hotels of the World association and was included in the list of the 50 Best Hotels in the World 2025.
